Member Assessment, Training and Licensing
The club prefers to assess potential new members by asking them to attend several live shooting events before inviting them to join. All potential members are required to produce a National Police Clearance — which can be ordered online from a variety of web addresses — at the time of submitting a membership application.
Training begins as soon as possible after membership acceptance, and the joining and annual fees paid. NESSCI has qualified instructors for both ISSF (Olympic-style) and IPSC (practical-style) firearms training. Instruction is free-of-charge, but there may be a fee for any instruction manuals/literature and ammunition required by the discipline.
SA Police are notified when a member has satisfactorily completed training. The police will return a notification to the member asking for the required fee to be paid, and to arrange for a photo to be taken for the plastic firearms licence card.
Please note that the training and licence certification is for “Club use” only, and will result in A1, B1 and H1 endorsement on a firearms licence. That endorsement will not entitle a member to use firearms outside a registered firearm’s club premises, nor does it allow hunting. A separate training regime, such as that provided by TAFE, must be undertaken if the member wants to hunt. The reverse is also true, in that providers such as TAFE cannot undertake firearms training if the member wants to have “Club use” endorsement on the licence. The club has a variety of firearms that can be made available during the training period, and can provide ammunition at cost price. Please note that no firearms or ammunition are stored on the club property.
